LOS ANGELES, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) --- Two weeks after the election of Donald Trump as U.S. president, there is still an obviously split in the U.S. society, even among Hollywood celebrities.
Fashion modelactress Gigi Hadid mocked future first lady Melania Trump during the opening monologue of 2016 American Music Awards (AMAs) in Los Angeles on Sunday.
"I love my husband, President Barack Obama and our children Sasha and Malia," Hadid said with heavy Eastern European accent mimicking Melania.
The impersonating did not earn that much of laughing and applause on the scene. Instead, supporters of Donald Trump bashed Hadid on social media right after her stunt. Hadid was called a "racist" because of her impersonating.
To echo Hadid's impersonating of Melania Trump on the show, Jay Pharoah, an American comedian, who co-hosted AMAs with Hadid, also poked fun at Donald Trump.
"I love 'Uptown Funk,' it was all totally about me," Pharoah said, impersonating Trump talking about singer Bruno Mars. "I'm going to funk this country up bigly."
As supporters of Hillary Clinton, Trump's rival in the presidential race, singer Idina Menzel and ABC host Mark Cuban also mocked the president-elect in the later show of the American Music Awards.
Though shocks and disappointment were heard in Hollywood after the election, there are also a bunch of Hollywood celebrities who showed their support for Donald Trump and sent congratulations to him on public occasions.
Actor Stephen Baldwin showed his excitement on Twitter after Trump was declared the winner. "Proud to have been a part of such amazing history!!" he tweeted.
Meanwhile, actress Kristie Alley sent her congratulations to Donald Trump on Twitter and showed her great support for Trump.
Many Hollywood celebrities announced their support for or endorsement of Trump during his election campaign.
Singer Azealia Banks tweeted: "I REALLY want Donald Trump to win the election."
One day before the AMAs, 39-year-old rapper Kanye West lashed out at Clinton on his concert in Sacramento, California. According to Billboard, West first railed at Beyonce and Jay.Z, then his rant veered toward Clinton. An article on amny says that Kanye shouted "Build that wall!" during his concert in San Jose to show his support to Trump.
An article from Billboard listed the best and worst moments of 2016 American Music Awards, with the first worst moment being Hadid's mimicking of Melania Trump.
The article said that Pharoah's impersonating of Donald Trump was passable, but Hadid's mimicking of Melania Trump went too far.
